“The camaraderie among the firefighters is excellent. Many of the full-time and paid-on-call crew have become some of my closest friends.”
Some of the Hottest Jobs Around
As you might expect, Rocky View Fire Services (RVFS) plays a critical role in our ever-expanding county. A decade ago, our firefighting contingent consisted of just 21 volunteers and one District Chief based in Langdon. Today we maintain four full-time fire stations in Springbank, Chestermere, Elbow Valley and Balzac, as well as three volunteer stations in Langdon, Irricana and Madden. This equates to more than 250 Paid-On-Call and over 50 Volunteer Firefighters, plus 44 full-time Firefighters, three Deputy Chiefs, a District Chief, a Fire Chief and a Director.
As we grow, so too do the pressures we place on this essential service. If you fit the requirements for one of our RVFS roles and you want to make a real impact to the Rocky View community, we'd love to hear from you.

Paid-On-Call (POC) Firefighters
POC firefighters are casual employees who work a minimum of two shifts per month. They set their own schedules to accommodate other jobs and obligations. Our full-time fire stations require three to four POC firefighters per shift.

Volunteer Firefighters
Volunteer firefighters do not book shifts at a station, but must live close to the communities they serve, and carry a pager. When an incident occurs, they are alerted via pager and respond to the call if they can. Volunteers also commit to volunteer hours in training and station upkeep.
