Position Summary:

Rocky View Fire Services is a composite fire service consisting of full time, part-time and volunteers employees. This staffing model meets the needs of the County and reflects the commitment of both the County and that of its various communities and residents. This commitment to a composite model is unwavering and must be understood and embraced by all Fire personnel

The Volunteer Firefighter is responsible for firefighting, rescue, medical assist services and other related fire and life safety services. The Firefighter is responsible for rapidly, efficiently and safely performing various duties under emergency conditions frequently involving considerable hazard. The work includes routine duties in the maintenance of firefighting vehicles, equipment and fire department facilities as assigned.

Volunteer Firefighter positions are available the following stations (preference will be given to applicants residing within 15 minutes of the Station):
• Bearspaw Station 103
• Madden Station 105
• Balzac Station 107
• Irricana Station 108
• Langdon Station 111

Important note: Mandatory, paid training on June 17, 18 (2 full days) is required.

Core Accountabilities:

• Volunteer Firefighters provide primary response to emergency calls and/or relief for primary responders at long term incidents within Rocky View County.
• Respond to emergency calls as directed. Perform a variety of rescue related duties to protect the public and lessen severity of injuries.
• Drive and/or operate any vehicle or piece of equipment as assigned.
• Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to continuously perform all required duties including, but not limited to, excellent cardiovascular fitness and capacity to bend, lift, and carry as required.
• Regularly attend scheduled training sessions. Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to lifelong learning in the areas of fire suppression, incident response and personal development.
• Endeavour to build a positive team atmosphere and foster positive relationships with internal and external customers.
• Aid in the maintenance of firefighting and medical equipment, tools, and apparatus to ensure readiness for any emergency service response.
• Participate in community related projects as directed.

Position Requirements:

• 18 years of age or older
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR ‘C’ certificate
• Clean 5 year driver’s commercial abstract will be required at time of interview if selected
• Non-GDL Class 5 driver’s license for Irricana, Langdon, Madden Stations
• Class 3 w/ Air Brake Endorsement, Class 2 or Class 1 Driver’s License for Bearspaw and Balzac Stations
• NFPA 1001 a definite asset
• Clean Criminal Record
• Satisfactory completion of a medical examination
• Possess the physical agility and stamina sufficient to perform all functions of this position in extremely adverse conditions
• Possess the ability to lift heavy equipment /loads as needed (may be expected to carry equipment weighing 20 to 40 lbs up stairs while wearing protective gear weighing at least 50lbs or to carry or rescue-drag individuals weighing over 200lbs)
• Possess adequate vision, hearing, mobility and dexterity to perform routine and non-routine firefighting tasks
• Maintain self-discipline and professionalism at all times
• Ability to react quickly and remain calm in stressful situations
• CSA approved black steel toed boots
