Position Summary:

The groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining Rocky View county parks, municipal reserves, environmental reserves and cemeteries. The grounds keeper is responsible to provide assistance to senior team members in all aspects of seasonal maintenance. A superior customer attitude is required as there will be interaction with the public. Due to the sensitive nature of cemetery operations, a mature and positive attitude is necessary for this position.

Core Accountabilities:

Level I
• Maintain grounds within the County to include: garbage pickup, mowing, trimming, laying sod, watering, and landscaping; planting trees and shrubs; maintaining planted flowers and flower beds; and manual weed control.
• Operate up to sixty (60) horse power tractors, riding and push mowers, rototillers, weed whips.
• Install, maintain, level and repair flat memorial markers.
• Assist with the operation and maintenance of nursery and / or greenhouse.
• Perform and actively participate in tailgate safety meetings, hazard identification and mitigation as required.
• Under the guidance of the Team Lead and Coordinator, will follow direction of assigned tasks to meet timelines.
• Act in a professional and responsible manner to protect the integrity of employees and the business of the County.
• Display a professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to employees, business and residents of Rocky View County.
• Prefer a valid class 5 driver’s license (AB GDLs may be considered).
• Adhere to Health and Safety Legislation and Rocky View safe work policies and procedures at all times, ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public and environment.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Level II includes Accountabilities of Level I plus the following:
• Previous experience in a parks, cemetery, or related environment.
• Operate gators, half (˝) ton and one (1) ton trucks.
• Prepare sites for burial to include: setting greens and lowering devices; and gravesite reclamation.
• Lead small work groups.
• Possess a current or the ability to obtain an Authorized Assistant license.
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience of basic computer functions (log on, check emails, open and save documents in MS Office Suite) as well as basic keyboarding skills.

Level III includes Accountabilities of Level I and II plus the following:
• Relevant college certificate in a related field preferred to include training in a recognized horticultural program of study.
• Operate chain saws, gators, skid steer, half (˝) ton and one (1) ton trucks.
• Lead with rodent control and herbicide application as required.
• Use backpack sprayers for weed control.
• Lead with the operation and maintenance of nursery and / or greenhouse.
• Prepare sites for burial to include: opening and closing of ground.
• Possess a current Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate.

Position Requirements:

• Demonstrate and execute safe and skillful operation of equipment at all times.
• Physically able to perform demanding tasks on a continuous basis including: bending, shoveling, lifting up to twenty-seven (27) kilograms (60 pounds), and operating equipment for extended periods of time.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service, organizational, prioritizing, time management skills and problem-solving skills.
• Ensure appropriate utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE) required (e.g., CSA footwear).
• Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
• Clean current 5 year driver’s abstract.

Hours of work are: 6:00 am to 4:30 pm (4 days/week) Monday through Saturday on a rotating shift.
